Rose Brunch at Alba Terrace, The Abu Dhabi EDITION
What to do with the short span of ‘winter’ in Abu Dhabi? Take every opportunity to enjoy a terrace, and much better if it is for brunch! Exactly why this elegant Mediterranean-toned terrace was the place to be this Friday.
Alba Terrace does a three-course set menu brunch on Fridays – no hassle of walking around to make up your mind at buffet stations. Moreover, with the table setting surrounded by water, who wants to get up at all? Not me!
Start your afternoon with a refreshing welcome drink while you glance through the menu. From vegetarian options to meats and seafood, the menu is an all-rounder.
Soon the appetizers start to flow to the table – burrata with black olives, courgette & basil tart with goat cheese, prawns marinated in grapefruit are a few from the menu that bring more joy to our table. One of my favourite (and do not underestimate it) is the warm bread with balsamic marinated garlic – this just gives you simple heartwarming smiles as you eat. Another popular favorite on the table is the prawns marinated with grapefruit and almonds – quite an interesting combination but don’t let that fool you. This demands a second serving.
With never an empty glass on the table, I have to commend the quality of service from the staff for their attention to detail and casual conversations with us.
Moving to mains, all the dishes descend to the table putting us in a tough spot on what to begin with. The choices are perfect just as the quantities served – Veal & Lamb Meatballs, Crab Linguine, Roast Baby Lamb and Provencal Vegetable Tatin. Oh boy!
The Roast Baby Lamb with Basil Polenta and Artichoke Fritters is the dish that made my smile wider. I wish I could pack up some of the artichoke fritters home, just cannot stop nibbling on them. The Crab Linguine felt a little flat with seasoning, in my opinion. The meatballs also seemed to be a winner across the table, unfortunately I could not try because of the veal. But the double order we made of this is testimony enough.
With enjoying too many favourite dishes and ready to wind-down with a glass of Aperol Spritz, the staff asks if they can get the desserts out. Desserts!? How did we forget that!? Yes, please bring it on as there is always a special place in my heart and stomach for it.
These French desserts are here to melt your heart. With a well balanced menu mix from Vanilla Mille Feuille with mixed berries and lemon confit to the Vanilla & Bay Infused Creme Brulee, the entire collection makes sure you do not finish your meal on an overwhelming sweet note – but just be at the delicate right spot.
Overall, we loved this brunch. The food, the drinks and the service are what is needed for a very perfect Abu Dhabi winter afternoon. As a personal preference, I would prefer the DJ with a more energetic music, but seems like everyone was enjoying just fine to his beats. Go check out this new brunch in town and I dare you to make a pick of a favourite dish before you leave!
